Today I want to share a life-saving technique with you.

Years ago, I went to the doctor for a medical evaluation. When he reviewed my chest X-ray, he told me it was very curious because I had "old man lungs." I thought, how was that possible? I did breathing exercises every day. Although it was true that I woke up several times during the night and my mouth was dry and my lungs congested every morning, I didn't give it much importance. He didn't question me further about it, and the comment was left at that.

The effects of poor breathing on the body are not really taught in medical school, therefore, the doctor did not ask me if I breathed through my mouth; because that was the cause of my premature lung aging.

So to start, I want to share with you a new scientific finding that explains why most humans snore today.

It turns out that from the origins of Homo Sapiens up until about 400 years ago, if you look at the teeth of our ancestors, they were straight and healthy. They didn't suffer from sinusitis, asthma, or other respiratory ailments.

However, with the advent of modern life and the consumption of increasingly processed and soft foods, we have weakened the musculature of our mouths, reducing the bone mass of our jaws, causing them to recede and become smaller. This has resulted in our teeth, lacking adequate space to grow, becoming crooked. At the same time, this phenomenon has reduced the size of our nasal cavities and openings. As a consequence, to compensate for the lack of air, our bodies have begun to breathe more and more through our mouths, leading to, among other phenomena, snoring, which has a very harmful effect on our health. The book «Breathe» James Nestor explains it really well.

Well, continuing with my story, it turns out that a year ago I went to a breathwork retreat, and one of the instructors gave us a lecture on the dangers of snoring and explained that something as simple as putting therapeutic tape over your mouth at night keeps it closed and makes you breathe through your nose, improving sleep and lung health.

I remembered the diagnosis from my chest X-ray from a few years ago and decided to try it out, and it worked!

Today I no longer snore. I sleep better, and in the mornings my mouth isn't dry anymore, and my lungs are recovering.

Another important fact is that when we breathe through our nose, we take in 20% more oxygen, and the air that enters the lungs is filtered, purified, and optimized.

So, if you snore, which most of us do, I invite you to try this simple technique that helped me get my sleep back, strengthen my lung health, and which will undoubtedly prolong my life.

Now, my recommendation wouldn't be complete without including a warning. Although breathing is the most basic and vital function of life, we are only just beginning to truly study it scientifically. Therefore, proceed with caution with my recommendations. I love experimenting with my body and thanks to that, I have transformed my health, taking years off myself.

I don't know what your general health status is or how affected your respiratory tract is, just listen to your body and use common sense.

Finally, I'll tell you that there's an entire nascent industry around products to help us sleep better. As a starting point, I recommend beginning with the simplest things, which are often the cheapest and most effective. In my case, I've experimented with various products, from surgical tape to pre-cut tapes with and without holes. My favorites are the lip-shaped tapes without a hole, called “mouth strips.” I buy them on Amazon US because Amazon Mexico doesn't carry them.

Remember that all great changes in life start from simple things. This has undoubtedly been a simple thing for me that has transformed my life and health for the better. Good luck on your adventures. And as always, I remind you that you are great and that life demands your greatness.

Have a great day.
