This past Friday, September 24th, within the framework of the Mexican Aerospace Fair, we launched \u201cM\u00e9xico en la Luna \/ Mexico on the Moon\u201d. An initiative to put a couple of exploration rovers on the Moon in 2022.<\/p>\n

It was a day full of excitement and achievements. The launch took place after the signing of a collaboration agreement between Airbus, the world's leading aircraft manufacturer, the Mexican Space Agency, and the startup Dereum Labs, a space initiative by young Mexicans.<\/p>\n

According to authorities from The Agency, the collaboration agreement with Airbus, which Dereum Labs instigated, is the most significant event in the history of the Mexican Space Agency.<\/p>\n

I'd like to tell you a bit about Dereum and the \u201cMexico on the Moon\u201d initiative, which I chair.<\/p>\n

Dereum Labs is the space startup founded by Carlos Mariscal and C\u00e9sar Serrano, a pair of millennials who initially created Space UNAM and later became the most recognized and awarded young Mexicans by NASA and the European Space Agency. With this background, in 2017, they founded Dereum Labs with the aim of helping non-space companies launch their businesses beyond Earth. And for the past four years, I've had the honor of being their mentor and a member of their board.<\/p>\n

Let me tell you a bit about the \u201cMexico on the Moon\u201d foundation's initiative. We have three objectives:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Put the Mexican brand and its aerospace industry in the spotlight among the world's major players.<\/strong> Mexico has great logistical and human advantages that position us as a player. The objective is to help attract investment and development that curb the flight of Mexican talent to other countries. A concrete action to boost this development and credibility is through viable projects such as Dereum, which consists of designing, manufacturing, and deploying two Mexican exploration rovers on the Moon in 2022.<\/li>\n
  2. Empower Mexican youth to believe in themselves.<\/strong> There is a criminal waste of talent in our country. Our youth requires guidance, motivation, and a push. Projects like Dereum Labs' are evidence that our young people are capable of playing in the major leagues. And we hope to use this success story as an example to inspire, instruct, and empower our youth. In this regard, we have established a strategic alliance with La Universidad Panamericana \/ IPADE to join forces and initiate a movement to make Mexico a protagonist in space exploration.<\/li>\n
  3. The financing for the initiative is finally in place.<\/strong> And we are going to do this by launching the first commercial mission to the Moon. This will allow companies like EY, Holcim, Cemex, or Am\u00e9rica M\u00f3vil to be the first to put their brand on the Moon, through advertising on our exploration rovers.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Imagine this scenario. Our rover lands on the Moon carrying a brick that it places on the lunar surface. The brick bears the logo of a construction company like Holcim or Cemex. And as the brick is placed on the lunar surface, the historic event is filmed by one of our rovers, while it's announced in real-time from the Moon, \u201cthis is the first brick laying the foundation for humanity's future off Earth.\u201d.<\/p>\n

    Can you imagine the power to boost brand value through this event? Being the first brand on the Moon has incalculable media and historic value.<\/p>\n

    The project's financing has two avenues. One is through tax-deductible donations, both in Mexico and the United States. And the second is through purchasing advertising packages linked to putting their brand on the Moon.<\/p>\n

    I invite you to support this transcendent initiative and together, let's put Mexico on the Moon.<\/p>\n
