What I'm reading:<\/p>\n
This week I'm reading \u00abRemember it!\u201d by Nelson Dellis, a North American champion in memory skills. <\/p>\n
It turns out that when he was young, he saw his grandmother suffer from Alzheimer's and decided to start training his mind to strengthen his memory and ensure that wouldn't happen to him. <\/p>\n
Today, he is part of the world elite of grandmasters of memory and presides over a foundation to help combat Alzheimer's through memory enhancement. <\/p>\n
It's fascinating to delve into the mental processes that memory champions use to memorize 217 names in 15 minutes or 907 digits in 30 minutes. It all comes down to converting names and numbers into memorable visual images that are then linked through a playful narrative built upon a rational structure. <\/p>\n
Undoubtedly, a book worth reading and practicing.<\/p>\n
Collecting beautiful people:<\/p>\n
This week, recognition and appreciation go to Traci Harrell, the 10-year president of the Seattle, Washington chapter of the National Black MBA Association. <\/p>\n
Traci and I are taking an intensive Positive Intelligence training together, and as of last week, we were assigned to integrate with another classmate, forming a triad of growth friends. <\/p>\n
Traci is an African American woman, the first in her family to go to college and excel professionally and socially. Her passion for helping her community get ahead is admirable.
\nI am truly fascinated by the opportunity to live with her for the next three months of the course and to delve deeper into understanding African American culture. <\/p>\n
Our ancestors couldn't be more different: my mom's family came from the big landowners of the Southern United States, and his from the emancipated slaves. An opportunity for growth, understanding, and compassion awaits us both, which undoubtedly is and will be a great gift.<\/p>\n
My daily struggle:<\/p>\n
This week, my daily struggle bore fruit. As I told you a couple of months ago, I realized that my controlling saboteur was undermining my personal relationships and my happiness. <\/p>\n
I was determined to get my loved ones to follow the path I thought was best for them. Today, I've changed my approach from one of imposition, which led to confrontation, discomfort, and anger, to one of compassion, love, and respect. This has eased the relationship and reopened a space of friendship, closeness, and happiness that has the power to help more than imposition. <\/p>\n
There's no doubt that learning to interpret the little voice in your head and discerning whether it's a product of fear or love is the giant leap towards sanity.<\/p>\n
