What I am studying<\/b><\/p>\n
This start of the year, I did an exercise aimed at evaluating and ordering my values.<\/p>\n
I started by making a list of the values I consider important. Then I put them in order of importance and finally wrote under each one the reason why I gave them this hierarchy.<\/p>\n
Then I started thinking about the things I DON'T want in my life and did the same hierarchy exercise.<\/p>\n
And finally, I began to analyze if that which I gravitate towards and that which I wish to avoid coincide or get in each other's way. Revealing.<\/p>\n
I invite you to do it too. Many times in our lives there's a misalignment between what we say we want and what we feel we don't want. And this lack of alignment creates inner conflict.<\/p>\n
So, this simple, yet profound exercise helps to clarify our values and turn them into a roadmap to follow.<\/p>\n
Collecting beautiful people<\/b><\/p>\n
Sometimes we know a person for years, and when we strike up a conversation about values with them, we realize we've missed out on the most beautiful thing about that person.<\/p>\n
That happened to me this week when I started a conversation with someone I've known socially for years, but didn't know their social work in depth.<\/p>\n
It turns out that 18 years ago, he and other friends created a group that goes up to the mountains in their town in the state of Veracruz monthly to do some educational work. The men interact with men, the women with women, and the young people and children with their peers.<\/p>\n
He told me, \"We don't give money, but we help people develop values that help them get ahead.\" I loved it. It's the difference between giving them a fish and teaching them to fish.<\/p>\n
And speaking of that, he told me a story. It turns out that one day he received a call from a friend who told him that another friend, who lives on the other side of the country, was contemplating suicide.<\/p>\n
And without thinking twice, my friend calls this person and says, \u00abI want you to get on a plane right now and come see me.\u00bb And this person agrees.<\/p>\n
When he arrives, she tells him, \"Come with me.\" And she takes him to the mountains to visit a couple of impoverished families who have children with disabilities and with whom he and his family have been involved for years, offering them emotional support.<\/p>\n
Back in the city, this person tells my friend that the experience shook him to his core. How is it possible that he was contemplating suicide when there are people far less fortunate than him who face setbacks with so much love, fortitude, and dignity.<\/p>\n

The daily struggle<\/b><\/p>\n
I've always slept on my side, on my stomach, and on the other side, tossing and turning endlessly at night. And lately, I've felt like I'm wearing out the joints in my hands and elbows from the pressure I'm putting on them every night.<\/p>\n
So, I decided to train myself to sleep on my back. On your back, you don't toss and turn, just like you don't put pressure on your wrist and elbow joints.<\/p>\n
Like training any new habit, the first few days are always the most challenging, and this case was no exception. I constantly wanted to turn over. Roll onto my side, curl into a ball, and end the anguish of lying on my back.<\/p>\n
But every time the feeling invaded me, I breathed slowly, deeply, and deliberately, and as I exhaled, I focused on the weight of my body stretched out on the bed and surrendered to gravity.<\/p>\n
I've been sleeping on my back for 10 days now, and it's wonderful. I'm resting better. And I no longer wake up with numb hands and elbows.<\/p>\n
And as a treat for myself for a job well done, I bought myself a therapeutic pillow made especially for sleeping on your back today.<\/p>\n
We have to push ourselves, and then pamper ourselves for the small achievements in daily life hahaha.<\/p>\n
